Why CBD Oil Won’t Get You High – Public Misconceptions about CBD

We’re often asked if CBD oil gets you high. As hemp growers we can categorically state that the answer is no – CBD oil does not get you high or have any hallucinogenic effects whatsoever. This is actually one of the biggest misconceptions that people have about CBD oil. It’s really nothing like smoking marijuana! But we completely understand why people are confused. In this blog, we look at where the misconceptions about CBD oil come from, and set the record straight.

Vox pop!

Go out onto the street and ask a few random passers-by their thoughts on CBD oil. The likelihood is that you’ll get some very mixed opinions coming back at you. There will be some who know exactly what CBD oil is and who use it to relax, ease the stresses of life and help them to sleep better. Then there will be some who have maybe seen it advertised here and there, noticed it in a health store but have never tried it before. And then, last but by no means least, you’ll get some who think it’s a highly dangerous drug that makes you hallucinate, and that it comes with a lot of negative cultural associations.

The fact of the matter is that the average person really doesn’t understand CBD just yet. While there are millions of people who regularly drink gallons of caffeinated drinks such as tea, coffee, and energy drinks without a second thought, a high proportion of them steer clear of CBD because they think it’s slightly untrustworthy in some way and fear that it is going to damage their body and mind.

CBD misconceptions

And in all fairness, it’s easy to see why these misconceptions have come about. After all, CBD oil is derived from hemp – the very same crop that provides the marijuana for smoking or for eating in “weed brownies” and “pot cookies”. And it’s only in the last few years that it has been legal to consume these in the US.

But in spite of coming from the same plant, CBD oil is not, and never was, the same thing as “pot”. CBD stands for cannabidiol and is just one of many parts of the hemp plant. It is drawn out of the plant by a process of distillation and is not in any way psychoactive. In fact, CBD oil is used for pain-relief, to help with insomnia and is approved by the FDA for the treatment of epilepsy. If you’ve never seen it before, it typically comes in a small bottle with a pipette that you can use to place a drop on to your tongue or into a drink.

Time and patience

As hemp growers, it can be frustrating to find that there are still these misconceptions about CBD in the general public. At the same time, though, we have to exercise a little patience here and accept the fact that it sometimes takes time for real understanding to make its way through society. As CBD oil grows in popularity, though, we will continue to demystify this substance and supply our 100% natural, organically grown California hemp so that manufacturers can make top quality CBD oil in the USA, Switzerland and all over the globe.
